Elder Scrolls Online Preview: PvP and PvE

Here is a quick preview of Elder Scrolls Online, a game that many are really looking forward to. The beta testing is now available. Getting signed up is recommended because game developers are going to need decent feedback to make this game as good as we want it to be.

The game is set about just over 1,000 years before Skyrim and the storyline hints at the Oblivion things being back. Oblivion was my favorite game because of the story although Skyrim was probably better for gameplay.

You got the Daedra Prince of Domination and Enslavement, Molag Bal. He’s basically trying to merge Tamriel with his Daedric plane and stir up some trouble, and you’re trying to stop him. All the different races of Tamriel that you know have joined together and formed 3 alliances, and now they’re all at war with each other. We’ve got the Daggerfall Convent, the Ebonheart Pact and the Aldmeri Dominion. We’ve got all them and you’ve got all your races inside there. They’re called Alliances, but the same thing as factions in other games.

PvP

There’s a big PvP storyline behind this whole thing. Basically you, as a player, can be named emperor of an alliance. I think that’s a really cool thing to put in a game. Obviously, it’s going to be some serious players who are going to get this status as it’s a nice competitive edge to leave on PvP. There’s going to be massive PvP between these 3 alliances. The highest-ranked player is crowned the emperor of that alliance. It just adds a nice competition to PvP ,which could make some eso gold,  that is lacking in some of the games. It just becomes a bit of a grind in a lot of the games. If there’s an end goal like that, I think it would give a lot more people an urge to play PvP.

According to the game’s website, the emperor will gain special abilities that increase their prowess on the battlefield. Although there’s not much information about it at the moment, it’s obviously going to be some emperor buff. It will probably be pretty good if only one person can get it on each server. Whoever controls the Ruby Throne can be crowned emperor and rules all of Tamriel. You could only be there for 5 minutes, and then somebody else beats you; someone else becomes top rank over you. Expect some serious battles going on between the top PvP players at all times.

The PvP gameplay in the Elder Scrolls Online is going to be similar to if you played Star Wars: The Old Republic where the PvP would level you up so everyone was equal. I could be in there with a lower Level and an opponent could be Level 10. I wouldn’t have as many moves as him, so he would have an advantage, but my moves would do the same damage as his moves. My gear would be stated out so we were all equal no matter what you had on. Then once you get to 50, there was like a separate Level 50 area where your gears and how well you were playing would matter. It is believed that a lot of people don’t like this because most don’t like the concept of people who haven’t really put the effort in to get the gear and the points can kill them. End-game, I don’t really think that will be the case. I don’t suppose it will be Level 10s can just jump into a game with level-capped players. As a player that doesn’t play that much PvP, it allows me to jump in and out of PvP and not feel like I’m at a disadvantage.

There’s also a point system while you’re doing your PvP. These can be spent on so-called ‘Siege weaponry and more.’ Obviously, there’s going to be massive catapults that that are going to help you break into certain places and take over certain objectives. If you’re not a big PvPer, you can actually spend your PvE gold from questing and selling things in the PvE side of the game. You can jump into PvP and use that gold if you’re willing to pay the gold. You don’t have to have all these PvP points, but at the expense of spending your real in-game gold. I don’t suppose a lot of people will bother spending it, because if they’re going to be playing PvP, they might as well be spending the PvP money. Probably the reason is to let people who fancy jumping into a game and who fancy getting a siege weapon out, they can do that with their money if they want.

PvE and Dungeons

In terms of PvE, rumor has it that there is going to be 5-man dungeons with heroic versions. Then there’s going to be public dungeons, or more commonly called as raids. You’ll just find them as you’re exploring, and then you get a group of people together. Then there’s bosses in there and you’ve got to take them all down. It’s going to make the game a bit more social while trying to get people to come with you. A bit like world bosses in any other game, but you’ll get these world raids.

Any Elder Scrolls players will feel at home because it still uses health, magicka and stamina. You still get your basic sources and your resources are exactly the same. That’s pretty much everything on your PvE and your dungeons.
